What is worship like?

Worship is central to the life of a church. Zion offers two services: Saturdays at 5pm and Sundays at 10am. At both services you will meet friendly faces and reverent worship centered on praising God and experiencing God's presence in the midst of community.

Saturday services are more relaxed and less formal. Communion is celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. This service is focused on preaching and lasts about 45 minutes.

Sunday services are just as relaxed while being more liturgical. On Sundays, you will experience worship as it has been practiced since the early church. Preaching is a central act of this service and communion is celebrated weekly. Service lasts about 55 minutes.

Both services are rooted in ancient structures of prayer + gathering. (We call this "liturgy")

For the first half of worship, we feast on the living Word of God as given in Holy Scripture; we hear passages of the Bible read aloud and we say some back and forth with each other. The pastor will preach a sermon based on a Bible passage that usually lasts around 10-15 minutes.

Then the feast crescendoes as we are all united together around God's Table through Holy Communion - you might have heard it called the Lord's Supper or the Eucharist. Eucharist is Greek for "giving of thanks." In this part of the service, we bless the bread and wine in the name of Christ, who we encounter as a community right before we are sent back out into the world to love and serve God in daily life. 

What about my kids?

Children are always welcome in worship! We believe it is important for families to worship together so children are exposed to the life and rhythm of worship from an early age. If there is ever a time where a child needs to leave service, there is an unattended nursery located down the hall from the sanctuary. The nursery provides a livestream of the service for those in attendance. 

Where do I park?

You are free to park in our parking lot located off West Walnut Street. There is also parking off of Main Street in front of the church as well as on the side streets surrounding Zion.

What do I wear?

Wear whatever you like! Some people wear suits and ties, some wear shorts and t-shirts, others wear something in between. Whatever makes you feel comfortable in the worship space is what you should wear.

Church doesn't happen only on the weekend!
