Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten Season and has been practiced for over 1,000 years. We receive ashes as a reminder that we are mortal and in need of a Savior. As the pastor places ashes on our foreheads he speaks, "remember you are dust and to dust you shall return." But the ashes placed on our foreheads take the shape of a cross, which reminds us that even in death we have a Savior--- a Savior named Jesus.
